        This course examines computer systems and control of external devices. Students will assemble computers and small networks by installing and configuring appropriate hardware and software. Students will develop knowledge and skills in electronics, robotics, programming, and networks, and will build systems that use computer programsand interfaces to control and/or respond to external devices. Students will develop an awareness of related environmental and societal issues, and will learn about college and university programs leading to careers in computer engineering technology

        Course Resources: 1) Pens, Pencils, Losse-leaf Paper Student Notebook (3-ring binder) containing the following sections:  a vinyl pocket insert:  to store activity checklists, daily log sheets, computer disks  introductory section:  containing course outline and classroom expectations daily course notes: all notes and handouts should be dated and kept in order evaluation section: for returned tests, quizzes, assignments career research: accumulated material and resources dealing with career technological journal Glossary of technological terms including definitions

  • “As students progress through the course, a great deal of information on relevant topics will be provided.  A well-organized notebook is a valuable reference and study resource for the student.**
  • Course Requirements:

    To successfully completed this course, students will:

  • - follow all established rules to ensure an optimum learning environment in the classroom
  • - participate actively and responsibly daily .attend classes regularly.
  • - respect the established rules for safety and security.
  • - complete all tests and assignments.
  • - develop and practice appropriate work ethic.
  • - maintain all projects and ensure they are marked by the teacher upon completion, in addition these project can be brought home for parents review
  • Report Card Grade:

    The Report Card grade is based on evidence collected through observations, conversations, and student products (tests/exams, assignments for evaluation). Some evidence will carry greater weight than other evidence. Determining a report card grade will involve professional judgment and interpretation of evidence that reflects the student’s most consistent level of achievement, with special consideration given to more recent evidence.

    Mark Breakdown:

    Term Work - 70 %

    Term work is based on a variety of performance tasks over the course of the term that demonstrates: knowledge, thinking, communication, and application.

    Knowledge / Understanding tests, quizzes, unit exercises   20%

    Thinking / Inquiry .assignments/projects, independent research, exercises 20%

  • Communication exercises, presentations     20%
  • Application / Making Connections unit projects, binder   40%

Final Summative - 30% (CPT)

The summative evaluation must take place completely in class and may take the form of a final test, or a variety of summative performance tasks and/or student portfolios that demonstrate the comprehensive achievement of the overall course expectations and the four areas of the achievement chart (knowledge, thinking, communication, and application).  For this course, the final 30% is assessed as follows:
